Elizabeth Dean, Professor Emeritus, UBC Faculty of Medicine talked about “Getting Healthier As You Get Older . . . What You Haven’t Heard Before” at our well-attended September 25th lecture.

An overflow crowd attended the first in our Fall lecturer series – a dynamic Dr. Elizabeth Dean talked about how we can live longer by changing our diets.

The solution, backed by thousands of research reports and personal experiences, is a challenge for all of us – switching to a plant-based diet. The data shows that, by eliminating meat, fish, oils and dairy products from our diets, our health can improve, sometimes dramatically. Those of us who attended will be pondering our next moves, foodwise! If you are interested in reading about the supporting research, there will be a handout available at the SSAC front desk.

And our next talk on Wednesday, October 16th at 2:30 pm, will pose no challenges, but it’s full of history and interesting discoveries. Emeritus Professor Joost Blom (an ex-Dean of Law at UBC) will let us know how both international law and the law of the sea were figured out in the 16th century, and still exist today in a modern form. For those who love to discover new facts and ideas, this is a talk that you won’t want to miss.

No pre-registration is necessary and admission is by donation. Seating is limited so please arrive early!
